New Berlin

You can find pretty amazing new buildings in East Berlin. One of my favorite projects is a rather unassuming one, its a gallery designed by British architect David Chipperfield. His work over all is really inspiring.
new versus old

Hail Mies

Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and opened in 1968. Its a perfect example for everyhthing that Mies stood for. Less is more.

Holocaust Memorial

The Holocaust Memorial in Berlin has received its fair share of criticism for being impersonal and cold. Personally, I found it very moving to be lost in the maze of massive, nameless tombstones. As you get to the heart of the memorial, all city sound is lost and its only you and the cold concrete. The memorial was designed by architect Peter Eisenman, who can do no wrong in my book.

TIERGARTEN

This is a collage I made of what I discovered to be my favorite park in the world. It's very romantic and un-tailored, with winding gravel paths and dark velvet ponds.
I love Berlin.

Chateau Marmont

The Chateau Marmont is a hotel at 8221 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California, built in 1927, and modeled loosely after the Château d'Amboise, in France's Loire Valley.

BLOCK

I'm in LA shopping with a client and found my favorite dishes at Lawson-Fenning in BLACK and WHITE! Don't try to find them, we bought them all...
BLOCK Chromatics in rare black and white pattern.

Amazing

U2 360'

My dream in college was to work for Mark Fisher designing sets for rock shows. Instead I got a job as an Interior Designer. A couple years into it, I emailed Mark Fisher's office looking for an apprenticeship. They emailed me back ever so nicely that they were a very small studio and didn't have the space for me. I still like them, though... Usually when we think of a band, we think of their music. What we don’t consider is architecture. Willie Williams and Mark Fisher create the best kind of architecture, purely for entertainment. The concept for the stage for U2's current 360 Tour is inspired by the Theme Building at LAX. The set is 164 feet tall, and requires 120 trucks to transport it. It was truly awesome.

Skeleton Wallpaper

Bottege Veneta

Bottega Veneta's new home line is unmistakably Bottega. The woven leather theme runs strong throughout the collection--from standing lamps to camp stools to glass votives (!)
The prices definitely reflect the craftsmanship and the name. There's almost nothing under 10k, sadly.

Perry Street Material Collage

Room Service

The apartment we are designing at 166 Perry Street street comes with Room Service and Pantry Stocking by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Not bad at all...

3.1 Phillip Lim

My favorite designer is Phillip Lim, and my favorite piece from this season's line is this leather mini-dress.

The Illinois

Reading about high-rises for the aformentioned article, I came across a sketch from Frank Lloyd Wright. The Illinois. The design dates to 1956 and it's pretty awesome. It's reminiscent of SOM's Burj Dubai, which upon completion will be the tallest building in the world.

The Rise of the Skyscraper

I recently finished another article for the November issue of eVolo magazine. The issue focuses on high-rise buildings which ispired me to make this collage of my favorite buildings around the world. An ideal city.
